New collaboration agreement between SIGRE and the Association of Environmental Information Journalists (APIA)

Miguel Vega, general director of SIGRE and María García, president of APIA, have signed a collaboration agreement to support the XVI edition of the National Congress of Environmental Journalism to be held at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, on 26 and 27 November with the slogan "Faced with hoaxes, let's tell the truth", which will focus on communication versus misinformation.

The current problem of misinformation about natural disasters and climate change, hoaxes or fake news, possible manipulations from communication offices, COP 30, agroecology and journalism responses to this challenge, are the main topics that will be addressed in this edition.

For Miguel Vela "participating in the National Environmental Journalism Congress, organised by APIA, represents a unique opportunity to reinforce SIGRE's commitment to environmental awareness. In a context where misinformation can undermine society's confidence in initiatives that promote sustainability, it is more important than ever to communicate with transparency and rigour to achieve greater environmental awareness among citizens. At SIGRE, we work in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry, distribution and pharmacies to responsibly close the life cycle of medicines through the SIGRE Point. This work, which combines public health and environmental protection, requires the support and cooperation of the whole of society, including, of course, the media".

According to María García "we will dedicate the sixteenth edition of the National Congress of Environmental Journalism to misinformation, a challenge that journalists must face every day and that can only be fought from the contrast of sources and rigour".

SIGRE

SIGRE is the non-profit organisation in charge of guaranteeing the correct environmental management of the packaging and remains of medicines that are generated in households. Launched in 2001, as a result of collaboration between the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacies and pharmaceutical distribution companies, we work to be an effective and efficient model.

APIA

It brings together journalists working in the field of environmental information from all over Spain. It was created at the end of 1994, with the aim of ensuring the independence and objectivity of news content and the rigorous dissemination of environmental information, defending the professional freedom of its members, facilitating dialogue and access to information sources, and representing its members on issues and topics of a professional nature.
